Winter Solstice

I can't believe I missed posting about the winter solstice (in the northern hemisphere).  What is the winter solstice?  It marks the beginning of winter and the shortest day of the year.  Chicago got only 9.1 hours of daylight, L.A. and Atlanta got 9.9 hours (because they are closer to the equator), and everything north of the Arctic circle experienced 24 hours of darkness (abcnews.go.com).

Now that the shortest day of the year has passed, we can look forward to more daylight.
