I Can't Get This Song Out of My Head

I told you I like rock music.
I listen to it every day to and from work.
For whatever reason, I cannot get this song out of my head.

A Look At My Finished Product (table runners & other stuff)

So everyone knows that I spent half of my weekend sewing table runners for my boss' retirement party. I wanted to show you the final outcome. It turned out pretty nice.

My boss, and guest of honor, Dona (on the right hand side).

Of course nobody commented on my table runners,
but everyone loved the old fashioned cars that we used as centerpieces.
I borrowed them from Uncle Lynn (thank you Lynn!).

We also took old fashioned post cards, blew them up to poster size and laminated them.

The main cake was a suitcase.  The picture we gave the baker was quite a bit more decorative.
The cake was a little plain, but tasted delicious.
The main cake was flanked by two flower arrangements on either side and a bouquet of balloons.
We also had two antique cars on either side.

Dona loves Chinese chicken salad, so that's what was for lunch.
We also had fresh fruit and homemade rolls.

It was a full room and Dona got a standing ovation for her 28 years of service to the children and families of El Dorado County.

Congratulations Dona!

He has taken some classes at the local JC and is loving it.
Check out the dude in action.

Impressive, most impressive.

A Happy Little Birthday

The fam and I headed over to my father-in-law's house to celebrate Todd's brother's girlfriend's birthday (did you get that?).  The birthday girl's name is Amber and she is awesome.  It was such a nice party with great food, as always (Thanks Anne and Dennis).

I was too busy eating to get pictures of the food, but I did manage to get a picture of the cake, the birthday girl and a couple of family and friends.

Amber and Brie

Beautiful Amber

Amber and her son AJ

Amber choking to death on all the smoke from her candles.

Happy 33rd birthday Amber!

Along with almost everyone else.

Spiderpig!

Spiderpig visited our house the other day.
Not familiar with Spiderpig, watch the video below.

When Spiderpig was at our house, look what he did
He did quite a bit of  damage.

Bad Spiderpig.
I wonder how Todd is going to fix this one.
Duct tape perhaps?
Stay tuned.

Psst - If you want to watch a more epic version of the Spiderpig song, watch the video below.

I bet you can't do this...

or this...

 or this...

and definitely not this...

Or maybe you are more creative and patient and able to make these, unlike me.  All these sculptures are made with tape.  Street artist Mark Jenkins turns "the street into his stage" using packing tape.

Pretty cool idea.  If you are interested in creating a sculpture and entering it in to a competition, click the source link and you can get more details.  Better hurry though because the competition ends March 24.

I guess I'll go get my tennies on.

First Day Of Spring

As you probably know, today is the first day of Spring.
You couldn't tell by the weather at my house.

Picture from our patio....nice day out...not!

This has been some CRAZY weather around here.
Sunny and warm during Fall and Winter, and now rainy and snowing for Spring.

I Kept Pretty Busy This Weekend

My boss is retiring at the end of the month, and I'm on the committee to plan her retirement party.  We have a budget of pretty much nothing (about $100. for decorations and gift).  We had to get creative because there are going to be about 80-100 people attending.

We came up with a travel theme for her, but decorations are not easy to find on a budget in a short amount of time.  So then planes, trains and automobiles was thrown out there.  I happen to know someone who has several cars (thank you Uncle Lynn), so he loaned them to me for the party.  So basically our theme know is no planes, no trains, just automobiles.

We bought some old fashioned postcards and are having everyone sign those and then putting them in an album.

We could only afford plastic tablecloths, so someone came up with the brilliant idea to table runners...this is where my weekend gets busy.  I got to buy material and sew the table runners for her party.  Sounds like no problem right, wrong, I don't know how to sew.

Thank God for my mom. She came down and showed me how to get started. I've finished all but one of them.

Material in my sewing machine.

Sewing one of the table runners.

This is what I get for buying cheap material - fraying, nasty mess.

A pile of the table runners.

Hold The Door

Amazing photograph huh?

Psych..it's not a photograph.  This is actually a
 "photo-realistic portrait" by Dan Witz.

It's totally amazing the amount of detail he includes in his portrait.
I can't even imagine the patience something like this takes.

Check out some of his other work, just click the source button above.

Cleans It Like A Hurricane

So I've been after Lexx to clean her room for approximately the last 6 months.  So this is her idea of cleaning her room.  Yep, she threw all the clothes she is getting rid of into the hallway so we can't walk through.  I guess I shouldn't complain too much.  At least you can see the floor of her room now.

Is this how you  or your kids clean your room?  Do you think I have a valid complaint?

Big Bummer

With all the wind, and a little bit of rain, we lost one of our big pines.  You can't really tell from this picture, but it took out a smaller tree and is leaning on another one.  This is the view from out the front of our house. Looks like Todd and I are going to have some clean up once the weather settles down.

Spring Has Almost Sprung

With the weather being unseasonably warm, the plants are all confused and think it is spring already.  I'm not complaining because I love when the flowers are blooming and the weather is balmy.

Being the nerd that I am, I got my camera out, like every year, and started taking pictures.

Coffee Please!

Did you remember to set your clocks back an hour?  I did.  This time change is going to kill me.  I'm guessing I'll have at least three cups of coffee today just to make it through the day.

Hey buddy, I feel your pain.

Hopefully your adjusting to the new time better than me.

Are You Kidding Me!

A new up and coming fad is mantyhose, better known as men's hosiery, as in pantyhose
Who wouldn't want their man donning a matching pair of pantyhose.
Apparently the fad hasn't really caught on yet here in the good ole USA, but it is fairly popular in Europe.
So what do you say,  would you sport a pair of these bad boys?
Personally, I don't want my husband touching my eyeliner, earrings or pantyhose.

It's Getting Close To That Time Again

April is nearing, and it's almost time to start our Spring Photography Challenge.
We are doing the same list of photo prompts as last Fall.
We would love for you to join us.
Look at life with a photographer's eye.
You know you want to, besides what else do you have to do?
That's no excuse.

We will start the first day of April, and do a prompt every day after that.
There are no rules, it's just for fun, and really, it's mostly about challenging yourself.

If you want to join us just let me know.
We can either link to your blog, you could post on Facebook, or I could post it on here for you, just let me know.

For Some Friends Who Are Struggling

I know some people that are going through a difficult time right now,
and I thought I would dedicate this song to them.

Lindsey Haun - Broken

Sending hugs and smiles your way!

Feeling Like Some Music

I'm not feeling inspired to write today.  I thought I would post a song.
Mmmkay, sound good?

Faith Hill - When The Lights Go Down

She's pretty amazing if you ask me.

Reflections

While Todd and I were hanging out in Tahoe, we were talking about how crazy it is that we still feel like teenagers, and then we look in the mirror, or go to do something like play soccer, and realize that we are in fact, middle age adults (BOO!).

I thought it was pretty interesting that I ran across this series by Tom Hussey called Reflections.
In the series, people look in mirrors and view their younger selves.
Instead of me trying to explain the series, why don't you take a look for yourself.

Pretty amazing pictures don't you think?
Be sure to visit Tom's site to see other amazing portraits.

Our Fun & Relaxing Weekend

Todd took me on a little jaunt to Tahoe.
It was so beautiful and relaxing.
There was hardly anybody there.
It was almost like we had the entire town to ourselves.

We arrive at our hotel and immediately ham it up.

Look at the size of this tub.  It is 3 1/2 ft. wide and...

6 ft. long.

Yep, that's snow piled half way up our window.

Todd and I enjoyed "swimming" in the bathtub.
It was so huge, almost like the size of a small spa.
After enjoying our tub time, we hopped in bed and got a good night sleep.

Because Todd and I don't ski, and we don't gamble,
the only thing left for us to do was eat, and eat we did!

We woke up, grabbed some breakfast, and then decided to drive around the entire lake
(I think it's like 76 miles, but I could be wrong).

Tahoe was practically a ghost town
(those are the casinos on either side).

Look at that crystal clear, beautiful bright blue water.

Just awesome!

North shore...empty, just like Tahoe.

Look at my patient hubby waiting for me to finish taking pictures.

Homewood Ski Resort (where Todd learned to ski).

We stopped at the Burger Lounge for lunch.

We ate outside on the patio, in the snow.

Wow, look at the size of that hamburger (It's 1 pound of meat!).

It took most of the day to drive around the lake.
After lunch, we headed back to the hotel and took a nap and watched tv.

We had pizza for dinner and then called it a day.

Sunday rolled around, and before you know it, it was time to pack up and check out.
We had breakfast and took one last picture by the lake before we headed home.

One last shot before we leave Tahoe.

It was a truly amazing weekend.  I think Todd and I need to do this once a month (wink, wink).
